Man gets 45 years’ RI for raping underaged maid

An accused who found guilty for raping a 17 year girl for three times was yesterday sentenced to 45 years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

In addition to the sentence, the accused was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.500,000 to the victim girl and imposed a fine of Rs.75,000 against him.

The case was tried in the absence of the accused as he has absconded court since the inception of the trial. Following delivering the verdict, the Colombo High Court judge ordered to issue an open warrant against the accused.

Following a lengthy trial, Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige observed that the prosecution had proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.

Considering the evidence transpired during the trial, the Colombo High Court Judge ordered to sentenced the accused for 15 years rigorous imprisonment for each charge and ordered to serve the sentences separately.

The Attorney General had filed indictment against the accused under three counts for raping a 17 years girl while who was served as a maid at his house from April 15, 2003 to June 21, 2003.
