Man held with 3,000 foreign fags

A coordinated operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police in Panchikawaththa on August 29, led to the arrest of a man transporting 3,000 foreign cigarettes by van, for sale.

Upon receipt of information by the Navy, SLNS Rangalla of the Western Naval Command and Colombo Foreshore Police conducted this special search operation in the Panchikawaththa area on the evening of August 29.

The raiding party searched a suspicious van and recovered 3,000 foreign cigarettes being transported for sale.

The suspect is a 32-year-old resident of Bloemendhal, Colombo 13.

The suspect, together with the 3,000 foreign cigarettes and the van, were handed over to the Foreshore Police Colombo for onward legal action.
