Man with underworld connections shot dead in Kosgoda

A relative of a powerful underworld criminal named Kosgoda Sujee, who is staying in Dubai, was shot dead in front of his house in Hiddaruwa, Kosgoda yesterday early morning (21).

Kosgoda Police say that this person, who is Kosgoda Suji’s uncle, is 52 years old. The police mentioned that he is a beach boy known by the locals as Ran Mahattaya.

A senior police officer said that it is suspected that this shooting took place as a retaliation for the attempt to kill Dulaj Tharanga, a former member of the Rathgama local council, who was a relative of the underworld strongman named Rathgama Vidura, near the Senigama temple on the June 17. According to a plan made by Kosgoda Sujee from Dubai, a woman brought Dulaj Tharanga near the Senigama temple and shot him.

According to the police investigation, the former member of the Rathgama local council, Dulaj Tharanga, had been shot because he was an accomplice to the attempt to kill the deputy principal of Ambalangoda Dharmashoka Vidyalaya, who is a relative of Kosgoda Sujee.

Police have received information from investigations that the relative of Kosgoda Sujee, who was shot in front of his house in Hiddaruwa, Kosgoda yesterday, switched off his mobile phone and went to sleep and woke up again at around 10 a.m. But the police say that when he woke up at around 5.30 a.m. yesterday morning and went to open the front gate of the house he was shot there.

The police say that since even his mobile phone was switched off, the shooters came near the house, spoke to him, brought him out of the house and shot him. Police suspect that the shooting was done by two persons who came on a motorcycle and that the shooting was done with a pistol.
