Mass held to welcome New Year at Batticaloa St. Mary’s Cathedral

Special observances were conducted at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Batticaloa to welcome the New Year 2025. Parish Priest Rev. Lesley Jeyakanthan presided over and con-celebrated the Mass.

Special Prior were recited for the economic uplift, peace and reconciliation among the different communities.

The preceding took place under heavy security. The Batticaloa Municipal Council had decorated the town with a Christmas tree constructed with discarded bottles and tires and coloured lights. A fireworks display took place during the time of the mid-night Mass.
