The digital x-ray machine equipped with modern technical facilities worth about Rs. 100 million installed in the Matara District General Hospital is to be added to patient treatment services from next week.
This x-ray machine provided under the financial allocation of the Health Ministry is the only x-ray machine equipped with modern technical facilities in the Southern Province. It has been about a week since the installation of this x-ray machine in the hospital.
Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala made a special observation of the hospitals last Sunday with the aim of finding out the patient treatment services provided by Matara District General Hospital and Matara Kamburugamuwa New District General Hospital and providing immediate solutions to the problems existing in the hospital’s human and physical resources.
This x-ray machine is used for specialized x-ray tests, and this machine can also be used for general x-ray tests. This machine takes longer than a report obtained from a regular x-ray machine and can obtain x-ray test reports that cover the entire body. The amount of radiation that enters the human body during x-ray examinations is very minimal, and this x-ray machine is equipped with the latest technical facilities to obtain accurate information related to the diagnosis, as well as special equipment for diagnosing respiratory diseases. This machine is to be used mainly for orthopedic and respiratory patients.
The hospital officials pointed out to the Health Secretary that 150 to 200 patients come to Matara District General Hospital daily to receive x-ray examination services, and with this machine, it will be possible to provide x-ray reports to more than 100 patients per day.
Matara District General Hospital Director Dr. Upali Karunaratne, Deputy Director General Dr. Upali Ratnayake, a group of hospital staff including specialists, doctors and nurses attended this event.
