Rural Road Development State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan yesterday said the statement made by Hansir Azad Maulana linking him with the Easter Sunday attacks is based on lies.

The State Minister said that Maulana wants to gain political asylum in a Western country by propagating lies and bringing the country into disrespect.

He expressed regret about the western media for telecasting news without proper investigation with an mala fide intent of disrespecting Sri Lanka its administration.

It is usual for people who make asylum claims in foreign countries to criticize us and our party to confirm their asylum claims.

Chandrakanthan said that it is important to note that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party had already secured a resounding victory at the Local Government election in 2018 before the Eater bombings took place.

“It is evident, even to the layperson, that there would have been no reason to launch such an attack under such circumstances,” he said.

He said that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna won the majority of the local councils in the last Local Council election and was in a very strong position when they faced the presidential election.

The State Minister also said that those who were involved in the Easter Sunday attacks should be severely dealt with. He added that the culprits should be sentenced to death. “It can be observed that Hanzir Azad Maulana himself has expressed his views as if he was directly connected with the incident. Therefore, he should also be investigated.

The State Minister suspects that the Channel 4 video on Easter Sunday is an another attempt to get the real criminals to escape justice.
