According to the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, all those who have assets must give their assets and liability declarations and media outlet owners, heads of media houses and all journalists should give their assets and liabilities declarations to the Mass Media Ministry Secretary, the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission (CIABOC)  Chairman Neil Iddawala said.

He said this while replying to a question about whether Members of Parliament have given asset and liability statements. He said that all citizens who have assets are subject to the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023. Meanwhile, it is reported that although 169 MPs should handover asset liability declarations to the Speaker, only 69 MPs have given their asset liability declarations so far. One hundred MPs have not yet given their assets and liabilities declarations and each MP must handover their first assets and liabilities declarations to the Speaker by June 30th of every year. Only MP’s submit asset liability statements to the Speaker, while Ministers and State Ministers submit asset liability statements to the President’s Secretary. Accordingly, the list of MPs who have not submitted the assets and liabilities declaration is to be handed over to the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission by the heads of parliament.
