MEP to support President’s candidacy

The Central Committee of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) led by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena decided yesterday (1) to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the upcoming Presidential Election.

MEP General Secretary Tissa Yapa Jayewardena, Deputy Secretary Yadamini Gunawardena MP, Assistant Secretary Vijaya Ratnayake, Deputy Chairman Githanjana Gunawardena and other members of the Central Committee took part in this meeting.

The Central Committee of the MEP met under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and the proposal to support the incumbent President at the upcoming Presidential Election who is running as an independent candidate was passed by majority vote. The MEP which contested the last General Election in alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, has three Parliamentary seats.

They are Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who contested the General Election representing the Colombo district, State Minister Sisira Jayakody, who contested the General Election representing the Gampaha district and Yadamini Gunawardena who was elected to parliament from the National List.
