Minister instructs officials to buy only registered drugs

Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana has instructed officials to bring only registered drugs to Sri Lanka and in case of non-registered drugs, to check the necessary data about such drugs and get them approved by the National Drug Regulatory Authority.

The Minister had given these instructions in a discussion held yesterday (1) with National Drug Regulatory Authority, State Pharmaceutical Corporation, State Pharmaceutical Products Legalized Corporation and Medical Supplies Division officials and senior Health Ministry officials.

The Minister said that if anyone acts outside of the above method, necessary measures will be taken. He instructed officials to suspend the purchase of drugs under emergency purchases and to arrange for the delivery of drugs that are in short supply as soon as possible through the prescribed method.

He pointed out that improving the health of the people of this country should be the priority of all of us and emphasised that it should be done collectively.

The Minister informed officials to pay attention to the essential drugs used for cancer, kidney diseases to maintain these drugs in the country without shortage, and to constantly pay attention to all drugs.

Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta, Additional Secretaries Dr.Saman Ratnayake, Y.L.M. Navavi, Deputy Director General of Medical Supplies D.R.K. Herat, State Pharmaceutical Corporation Chairman Dr. Ajith Mendis, National Drug Regulatory Authority Chairman Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, State Pharmaceutical Products Legalized Corporation Chairman Dr. Uthpala Indrawansa and other officials participated.
