Ministers Harin and Manusha resign from posts after SC order
Ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara yesterday resigned from their respective ministerial portfolios.
Fernando resigned from his Ministerial portfolios of Tourism, Lands, Sports and Youth Affairs while Nanayakkara stepped down from his Labour and Foreign Employment ministerial portfolios following the Supreme Court order issued yesterday morning declaring the SJB’s decision to suspend their party membership was lawful.
Meanwhile SJB General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara said that Manusha Nanayakkara was elected to Parliament at the 2020 general election by securing second place in the Galle district preference list of the SJB.
He said that Bandulal Bandarigoda, who was ranked third in the preference list, will enter parliament to fill his vacancy.The SJB General Secretary also said that since Harin Fernando was elected from the National List, the party’s executive Committee will make a decision about the person who will be elected to fill the vacancy.
