Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana making a speech while paying tribute to the late Pillasse Wimaladhaja Nayaka Thero said; “The passing away of Pillasse Wimaladhaja Nayaka Thera who rendered yeomen service to the country and the Buddha is an unbearable loss to the country and the Buddha Sasana. The Thera was engaged in a unique religious and social mission. He firmly believed that the thirty-year war should be ended for the sake of the unity of the country. Therefore, during the war, the Thera had immense strength and boundless commitment to go from camp to camp to give strength and blessings to the war heroes in the battle to save the country, Sambuddha Sasana and human lives.

“I personally know that after the end of the war, he made a great contribution to the welfare of the disabled war heroes. Because of that, he had a strong desire to open the three storeyed building built in the temple during his lifetime with the participation of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who led the country to victory in the war effort. The former President participated in the event as a mark of respect for the Thera. During my tenure as the Education Minister, the Nayaka Thera worked diligently as a member of the committees appointed to create a generation of disciplined and virtuous students in the Sri Lankan education system,” the Minister said.
