MoU signed between SL and Oman to promote agriculture sector in Sri Lanka

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today (10) between the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries and the Government of Oman with the aim of boosting agricultural activities in both countries.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka by the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera and Mr. Ahmed Ali Said Al Rashdi, the Ambassador of Oman to Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government of Oman.

On this occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mr. Janaka Dharmakirthi, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Oman Embassy, Mr. Said Ali Nasser Al Harbi and its first secretary Ms. Samira Said Ali Saif and others participated.

The events covered by this MoU included official visits by researchers, studies and research, promotion of import and export of agricultural products, and many other things that were agreed upon.

The Omani ambassador who expressed his opinion said that the Minister of Agriculture will evaluate the steps taken by the government for the development of the agricultural sector in Sri Lanka and will provide the necessary support to Sri Lanka.

The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, who expressed his opinion, also mentioned that this MoU is a historic agreement reached between Oman and Sri Lanka. The minister also said that this strengthened the friendship between the two countries.
