The President’s Office has asked the Attorney General whether a decision made by the Cabinet can be questioned under parliamentary privileges.
Taking into account the complaints made by a number of members of the ruling party that some Members of Parliament are challenging the decisions of the Cabinet as issues of privilege during
the budget debate, President Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the President’s Office to inquire into the above matters.
The President’s Office has asked the Attorney General to inform them whether raising such privilege issues is an abuse of parliamentary privileges. The President’s Office has inquired from the Attorney General regarding the decisions made in the Cabinet as well as the possibility of raising issues of privilege in Parliament by annexing the President and the judges.
