Murder of Jeyaraj Fernandopulle: ex-SP and ex-LTTE member acquitted of charges
Former Gampaha Superintendent of Police Lakshman Cooray and former LTTE member Selvaraja Kirubhakaran alias Morris, who were accused of murdering 16 people including former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle was acquitted of those charges.Gampaha No. 01 High Court Judge Mr. Sahan Mapa Bandara announced the decision of the case.
On April 6, 2008, Mr. Jeyaraj Fernandopulle was killed in a bomb attack near Weliveriya Kanti Stadium.
Mr. Lakshman Cooray who served as Gampaha Superintendent of Police, was arrested on August 12, 2009, accusing him of having a direct relationship with these bombings.
