Nabbed with Rs.800,000 worth hashish in Silawathura

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Mannar Police in Silawathura on Thursday led to the apprehension of a suspect with 893g of hashish.

Through its constant vigilance and persistent efforts, the Sri Lanka Navy is making significant strides in eradicating the scourge of drugs from the country.

Based on information received by the Northwestern Naval Command, the combined operation was mounted by SLNS Therapuththa and Mannar Police in the Silawathura area. Accordingly, a person in the area was interrogated on suspicion and a hashish parcel was recovered in his possession. Thus, the suspect along with the parcel of narcotics weighing about 893g was taken into custody. Meanwhile, the street value of seized narcotics is believed to be around Rs.800,000.

The apprehended suspect is a 24-year-old resident of the Silawathura area. The accused together with the parcel of hashish was handed over to the Mannar Police for further legal action.
