The Kuliyapitiya SSP has ordered to suspend a Inspector working as Crime Division OIC of the Narammala Police and a Sub-Inspector for allegedly suppressing details of a spate of robberies that happened in the Narammala town on November 30.

It is reported that seven shops were broken into by thieves on that day and the above officers had allegedly recorded only one such robbery. The shopkeepers came to complain to the Police, but the crime investigation division had only recorded the complaint of one shop keeper. It is said the Police had only recorded the theft of goods worth Rs.2.7 million from a mobile phone shop at Kurunegala Road.

It is stated that the officers including the Crime division OIC had avoided even visiting the other places where the thefts had taken place.

According to the information received by the Kuliyapitiya SSP, after a preliminary investigation, steps have been taken to interdict the OIC and an SI of the Narammala Police station, who allegedly suppressed the complaints. A senior Police officer stated that allegations against these officers state they did not record the original complaint regarding the six thefts, failed to document them and visit the crime scene, and did not investigate the six crimes.
