National Archives Policy public hearing on August 25

The National Archives Department is holding a public hearing on the draft National Policy on Archives and Records Management on August 25 from 9.30 a.m. onwards at the Auditorium of the National Archives Department, Colombo.

The Department said that those who submitted written comments on the draft policy before August 14, 2023, as previously notified, will first be invited to present oral comments. Thereafter, other members of the public will be given the opportunity to comment.

The draft policy can be downloaded from the official website www.archives.gov.lk of the National Archives. The main objective of this National Policy is to provide an appropriate framework for shaping the management, protection and accessibility of the country’s archives and records.

The policy further emphasizes the importance of ensuring access to evidentiary records in this country, preserving collective memory and embracing technological advances in records management.
