National Hospital’s Acting Deputy Director Dr. Rukshan Bellana suspended

The duties of Dr. Rukshan Bellana, who was serving as the Acting Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital, have been suspended.

The decision had been communicated via a letter issued under the letterhead of the Ministry of Health, dated 18 December 2025.

According to the letter, preliminary investigations by the Ministry of Health revealed that Dr. Bellana, as a government medical officer holding a responsible position, had made statements to the media without approval, in a manner that created a controversial situation in the country and unrest among the public.

The letter further stated that formal disciplinary action will be taken in due course regarding this matter. (Newswire)
