The Navy conducted several cleanup drives in beach areas covering Naval Commands on Saturday (28), in parallel with the International Coastal Cleanup Day (September 21) and Marine Resources Conservation Week.
The Sri Lanka Navy often contributes to beach clean-up efforts, with a view to minimise plastic and polythene waste entering the ocean and protect the pristine coastal environment for the future generation.
The Western Naval Command in Galle Face, Eastern Naval Command in Naval Dockyard, North Central Naval Command in Piergama and Mulankavil, Southeastern Naval Command in Panama and Kalmunai and Southern Naval Command in Mirijjawila, Mahamodara, Narigama and Tangalle conducted these beach clean-up programmes. During this timely efforts, Naval personnel helped restore the attractiveness of the beaches by removing plastic and other waste scattered along the coastline.
The beach clean-up drives were well supported by officers and sailors from the Navy Headquarters and respective Naval Commands.
