Navy conducts CBRN training programme at Colombo port

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) conducted a comprehensive theory and practical training programme at the Port of Colombo on Wednesday (30).

This programme initiated by the SLN’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, is aimed primarily to enhance the knowledge, preparedness, and operational readiness of key personnel from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, including officials from the Colombo International Container Terminal, Jaya Container Terminal, and Colombo Dockyard PLC.

During the theoretical training session, participants were briefed on detecting, identifying, and safely managing chemical hazards, while the practical session focused on hands-on experience with safety equipment, emergency procedures, including evacuation, and proper disposal of hazardous chemicals.

It is noteworthy that the SLN has established CBRN Units at all principal harbours across the nation, including Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Kankasanthurai.

These Units boast well-trained first responders poised to swiftly address any CBRN incident transpiring within the harbour premises and territorial waters.
