The new building of the Madyama Nuwaragam Palatha Divisional Secretariat was vested to the public at Pandulagama, Anuradhapura under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on Tuesday (31), which marks the World Cities Day.

The Prime Minister said, “The Buddhist community of the world consider Anuradhapura as one of the oldest cities in the world. This city is under the shade of the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. This Divisional Secretariat is a special Government office in a special city. This Divisional Secretariat, which consists of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and Atamasthana or eight Sacred places of worship, should be an example for us to continue working as a special office.

“Those who have come and resided in this area for many years now get land rights from the Government Lands Department. According to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s new digital project, all 22,000 homes in this division will be digitalized and we will be able to receive messages from these households. This is something new. All the residents of the oldest city in the world should have the ability to work through the new digital network in order to make it a technologically advanced place. Our ministry has allocated the necessary funds for this task.

“This programme will make it easier to provide services to all residents and reduce the time they spend. Today, Information Technology is in everyone’s hands. A new generation is born at every household who can connect to the mobile phone. Even this new generation can educate their parents as well.

Farmers who are cultivating paddy can provide rice to thousands of pilgrims visiting this city. The Government is starting a new chapter in every Gramasevaka Division of the district to arrange a plan to facilitate the pilgrims”.

State Ministers Janaka Vakkumbura, Ashoka Priyantha, MPs S. M. Chandrasena, Duminda Dissanayake, Yadamini Gunawardena, Public Administration Ministry Secretary Ranjith Ashoka, Government Agent of Anuradhapura District M. J. K. Jayasundara, former Minister S. M.
