All Divisional Secretariat divisions across Sri Lanka have been designated as either affected or at-risk areas for African swine fever. In light of this, the Animal Production and Health Department Director General Dr. Hemali Kothalawala has issued a new gazette notification, relaxing previous restrictions and granting permission to transport healthy animals. According to the Animal Production and Health Department this new gazette notification, issued on November 5, remains effective until further notice.

Dr.Kothalawala stated that animals from farms confirmed by veterinarians to be free from the swine fever infection may now be transported and slaughtered for meat.

However, animals and meat can only be transported if accompanied by a health certificate issued by a veterinarian. The Director General further noted that this decision was made considering the significant containment of the rapid African swine fever outbreak.
