The Government is planning to develop the Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital (NFTH) under a new model targeting medical tourism, Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
The Minister has decided to take this hospital under Health Ministry and develop the hospital under a separate special future development programme and to assign all the frontline staff including specialist doctors.
The Director General of Health Services has appointed a special committee on the advice of the Minister to carry out the future development works of the hospital and the development proposal of the committee is to be given to the Minister before December end.
The Minister announced this recently at a meeting convened to discuss some issues faced by the Moratuwa Medical Faculty students at the Health Ministry.
The Minister’s attention was drawn to providing a quick solution to the problem arising from the lack of a hospital with proper facilities to provide professorial training for medical students studying in the Moratuwa Medicine Faculty and to develop the Neville Fernando Hospital in Malambe as an efficient hospital.
