Niriella woman’s death not determined, reports from Colombo expected

Muditha Kudagama, forensic pathologist at the Ratnapura Hospital who conducted the forensic examination, related to the body of the graduate found

under a bridge in Niriella, Ratnapura Monday, informed the police to send the body parts to Colombo for further tests and obtain a report as the exact cause of death could not be determined.

The body of the 25-year-old girl named Sachini Jinadari Jayasinghe was a resident of Niriella area in Ratnapura. She is a graduate in economics from Jayawardhanapura University and has been working as a computer operator in a private educational institute in Ratnapura.

She was in the habit of going to her work place in Ratnapura town every morning, but on the morning of last Monday, 27th, she had left home and went to her work place as usual. But as she had not gone to office a complaint had been lodged with the police. While searching for her with the help of local residents, her body was found under a bridge on a deserted road.

The deceased Sachini Jinadari was the eldest child in a family of three and had a younger brother and a sister.

When we went to her house to find information about her death, her parents and elder brother had gone to Ratnapura General Hospital to participate in the forensic medical examination. Pawani Taraka, the victims sister was at home with several elderly relatives. An elderly relative said, “Our daughter after leaving University was working in a private institution until her results came. She left the house at 6.10 a.m. every day and when she left the house, she used to give a call to the boy she was going to married to. She also called him when she arrived at the office. But on the day she went missing she had not called him after going to office and as a result he had called home to inquire about her. When there was no information, we told the police”.

“When the police were searching they found the body. It was while following the sound of a dog barking in the river bank that the police saw a water monitor dragging something. It was the body of our daughter” she said. The monk at Niriella temple said that Sachini is one of the best teachers in Dhamma school and she was a good child who doesn’t have enemies.

According to the information in the forensic examination report, she did not have any internal or external injuries apart from the bite wounds of a water monitor. Also there was no sign of any sexual assault. Elapata police too have not yet found a clue as to how this death happened. On the instructions of Ratnapura SSP Senaka Weerasinghe, investigations are being conducted.
