Sports Nutrition is a vital area to develop sports, said Nutrition expert Professor Renuka de Silva at the “Decade of Fair Play “discussion organized by Sri Lanka Anti doping Agency (SLADA) to mark their 10th Anniversary.
Today athletes and coaches are not concerned about nutrition which is a key factor to develop skills .The objective of this discussion is to make clean athletes with SLADA always making great effort to make clean sports through clear athletes while psychologist motivator and nutrition are very important areas for the teams. Preparation is very important while adjusting to weather conditions is vital for any type of sports said Prof Arjuna de Silva. To make Athletes Data base is very vital but this area is neglected and with modern methods very difficult to go forward on the sports field.
Anoma Ratnayake the Senior Lecturer Physical Education of Kelaniya University pointed out coaches knowledge and sports administrators also have to be upgraded to promote sports. Physical Education introduced to Sri Lanka 154 years ago but still we have not upgraded and this is a very big issue to develop sports. Today Sports Degree is awarded in Universities and athletes have to make use of this opportunity.
Sriyani Kulawansa the Commonwealth Games Silver medalist pointed out players attitude is very vital and it has to develop from school level and coaches have a big role and correct guidance from the beginning is important.
Prof. Chaturanga Ranasinghe who was with the athletic team at the Asian Games pointed our players ‘preparations is very important before the meets while their training and adjusting to weather conditions bring successful results as our athletic team went to China two weeks before Asian Games .Compared to 1991 South Asian Games and today India is well ahead of us today.
India make proper plans and work hard to get success and we have to go ahead with all facilities and athletes are the key and they have to keep their fitness to get successful results.
