OIC’s alleged suicide; dispute with family – Wife

It has been revealed in the preliminary investigations that the Officer-in-Charge of the Eheliyagoda Police Station Chief Inspector Priyankara de Silva who was found dead with gunshot injuries in the early hours of Saturday had shot himself with his service revolver. The OIC was found dead in his official abode.

A senior police officer said that it is not clear why the OIC, who is said to be a well respected Police officer, committed suicide. He said an investigation is underway to determine why he committed suicide.

His mother had told Police that her son came home last week after being on leave and said:”Mother, I have received death threats.” Police information revealed that the OIC’s wife had told the Police during the inquiry regarding his death that her husband had said that:”Only when I die will it be okay for all of you” during a dispute with his family members.

The OIC, who is a resident of Wadduwa Molligoda area, has been the Ehliyagoda OIC from November 20, 2021. It is said that he was a popular officer with the people of Eheliyagoda area.

Chief Inspector Priyankara De Silva 42, was a father of two.
