A heavy collision between a bus and a lorry in the Madampe area on the Chilaw-Colombo main road caused injuries to 26 passengers with one death yesterday (4) morning.
The injured passengers from the accident have been admitted at the Chilaw General Hospital for treatment and few persons who were admitted are in serious condition, Police said. A Chilaw-Colombo bus that was plying from Devala Junction to Chilaw had collided with a lorry that was transporting cement which had also been travelling in the same direction yesterday morning.
The driver of the bus who was unable to control the speed of the vehicle had crashed into the lorry causing injuries to 26 passengers. Heavy rains had been experienced in the area where the accident occurred at the time of the incident. The bus had been severely damaged in the accident and the lorry had gone off the road and stopped with the driver’s door section heavily damaged.
The Madampe Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
