Online job seekers cyber criminals’ latest target – SLCERT

Sri Lanka CERT, the National Centre for Cyber Security says that people who apply online for job vacancies posted on social media have become the latest target of cyber criminals.

A senior engineer of CERT said yesterday (16) that it has been observed that several advertisements containing information about various bogus job vacancies are being shared on social media.

He stated that people should avoid responding to social media advertisements that contain information about fake job vacancies and in every case, one should identify the correct website of the relevant institutions and apply for those jobs only according to the instructions mentioned there. He also requested people not to give their bank account details to unknown parties while responding to social media ads and avoid exchanging OTP numbers. He said online fraud using OTP numbers have risen.
