Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the opposition objects to the Domestic Debt Optimization programme proposed by the government just for political gains and not with a vision of economic stabilisation.
Domestic debt must be restructured for the sake of the country’s banking system and economic stabilization. We have reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund for that. “We expect suggestions from the opposition to carry forward the agreements reached more effectively.
The opposition did not present any alternative and they have decided to oppose the programme presented today merely for political gain. “DDO does not harm any party. The financial security of the people is assured. The banking system is getting stronger. In such a situation, the people of the country will continue to be benefitted,” Semasinghe said adding that it seems that the opposition is working to prevent it.
