National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday said his opponents have resorted to create a fear psychosis among the public in the face of imminent defeat at the forthcoming Presidential Election. Addressing a rally held in Kandy yesterday (11), Dissanayake said that the political climate is becoming intense as the election is round the corner.
“Our party is gaining popularity, and in response, our opponents have resorted to spreading baseless rumours and mudslinging,” he said.
He added that their desperation is evident in their repeated attempts to sow genesis of discord among the people.
“Our party is well-aware of the fact that Buddhism is the religion that has traditionally united our society and it was the foundation of shaping our civilisation”, he added.
He added certain Buddhist monks are trying to make false and defamatory statements against them.He believed that religion should not be exploited for political gain,”Our opponents are persistently trying to bring religion into political campaigns with an intention of gaining political mileage.
“We are a party that respects all religions and would never resort to using faith to divide people or gain an unfair advantage.”
“In the absence of substantive arguments or evidence, our opponents have no choice but to rely on falsehoods. Their attempts to discredit our campaign are futile; our victory is inevitable,” he added.
