Over 1.2 mn tourists arrivals upto Aug. 11

Sri Lanka has received 1,271,432 tourist arrivals from January to August 11.Heading towards another productive month the county attracted 73,373 arrivals until August 11.

To date Indian 237,649 tourists was the main market for Sri Lankan tourism while Russian Federation,120,373, United Kingdom,119,122, Germany 85,146 and China ,82,589 followed. The country attracted 1,487,303 arrivals last year and with this upward trend the country is heading for the highest number of arrivals in history surpassing the best year in 2018 where Sri Lanka attracted 2,333,796. Many travel industry experts say that the government should intervene to implement the old visa system initiated by Mobitel. “The present system is not at all conducive for the travel sector and if the old system was in place the country would have at least 10% more of arrivals,” a member of the Sri Lanka Inbound Tour Operators Association said.
