The Police have nabbed 413 persons for drunk driving in a special traffic operation during the 24-hour period ending on December 30.
During the period, Police took action against a total of 7,676 drivers for traffic offences.
This includes 49 for reckless and dangerous driving, 110 for speeding, 1,086 for other traffic violations, 94 for licence-related offences, and 5,324 for various other traffic offences.
This special traffic operation, which began on December 23, aims to reduce road accidents during the festive season. It is being conducted nationwide to ensure road safety by strictly enforcing traffic laws and regulations.
Furthermore, the Police reported that from January 1 to December 13 of this year, there were 22,967 road accidents, resulting in 2,243 deaths and 4,552 serious injuries. Among these incidents, 2,141 were fatal accidents, accounting for 9 percent of all cases, along with 6,500 serious accidents and 9,127 minor accidents.
The Police urge the public to refrain from drunk driving and to adhere to all traffic laws to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road. This special operation will continue throughout the festive season to reduce road accidents and maintain law and order on the roads. The cooperation of the public is essential in achieving this goal and ensuring a safer environment for all road users during this period, the Police said.
