0 6

In a bid to bring a new and accessible sporting experience to the people of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Playing Section, operating under the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, has officially introduced Padel Tennis to the country.

Padel tennis is not just a sport; it’s a fun-filled activity that offers a more accessible alternative to traditional tennis. The game features smaller racquets, and the court size mirrors that of a badminton court, making it an ideal choice for players of all ages. From 6-year-olds to those well beyond 60, Padel tennis promises an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone.

The excitement surrounding Padel tennis is not limited to Sri Lanka alone. Countries like India, Japan, Qatar, Singapore, and Thailand have already embraced Padel tennis, marking it as the fastest-growing sport in the region. Furthermore, the sport has gained immense popularity throughout Europe.

Responding promptly to the global trend, the SLTA Playing Section, under the leadership of President Sriya Munasinghe, initiated the soft opening of Padel tennis on October 29, 2023. This marks a significant step forward in diversifying sporting options in Sri Lanka and aligning with the global enthusiasm for Padel tennis.

With its simplified rules, smaller court dimensions, and engaging gameplay, Padel tennis is poised to become a favorite pastime for individuals of all ages and skill levels. The introduction of this exciting sport to Sri Lanka not only broadens the horizons of the local sports scene but also opens the door to a new era of active and inclusive recreational activities for the community.
