Panadura Balika under 20 Hockey team excel at Western Province tourney

Panadura Balika Vidyalaya pocketed the second runner up at the under 20 Girls Western Province National School games Hockey tournament with a three nil win against Ladies College Colombo, organised and conducted by the Department of Education – Western Province, under the guidance and supervision of the Ministry of Education, played at Dharmapala College ground, Pannipitiya Kottawa recently.

In the pre quarter final, they beat Yasodhara Balika Vidyalaya Colombo by two goals to nil and in the quarter final, they beat Musaeus College Colombo also by the same margin two goals to nil. Advancing to the semi final, they lost to Nawala Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya in a thriller on penalty strokes ( 4/2 ) after the game ended in a scoreless draw. In the decider of the second runner up, they beat Ladies College Colombo by three goals to nil to be recognised as one the leading Hockey playing Schools in the Western Province. Principal Suranthi Gunawardena, her leadership with an encouragement for these young lasses and her backing with the needs for the development of Hockey has been the success behind, where she can boast herself of the achievements in Hockey at Panadura Balika Vidyalaya.

Ex national player Rangika Perera, who is the Coach and his guidance was an asset to these young lasses for them to come up to this standard.
