A student of Mullaitivu Combaville School who applied to appear for the next year’s Scholarship Examination has been told by the school administration that they cannot allow him to write the examination.

The student’s parents complained about the incident to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission yesterday (8). In the complaint submitted by these parents to the Mullaitivu office of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, they stated that their son underwent heart surgery after sending applications for the scholarship examination.

They say that their son could not go to school for 42 days due to this reason and the medical reports were submitted to the school in this regard.

In spite of the situation, the school decided that her son could not be allowed to write the exam.

The elder sister of this student appeared in the scholarship exam two years ago and scored 167 marks. His brother who is going to face the exam this time has scored more than 70 percent marks in the exam practice papers conducted by the school so far, the parents say.

Parents said it is a very unfair decision and request the Human Rights Commission to intervene to allow their son to write the scholarship exam next year.

Commenting on this, Human Rights Commission officials said that they would conduct an investigation into the incident and if any injustice has been done to the student, they will intervene and provide a solution.
