Parliament should enact laws to establish Independent Commission to achieve long-term goals – MP Namal

Even though there are many good policies in many institutions, those policies also change when ministers change, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa told Parliament yesterday. Even the Commissions are appointed to find solutions, they also change when Presidents,

governments and Ministers are change. The MP said this while presenting the Interim Report of the National Council Sub-Committee on Identifying Priorities in Formulating Short-, Medium- and Long-Term Policies to Parliament yesterday.

He said that a question arises as to how government officers work properly in their institutions when they are repeatedly called to the Parliamentary Committees. Therefore, a specific programme should be prepared for that, he said. He requested that laws should be compiled and submitted to Parliament to establish an Independent Commission to implement the long-term goals.

The MP further said every Ministry and every institution makes policies. However, all these policies will be limited to Parliament unless a long-term statutory office is established. Similar proposals will come even to the Tenth Parliament. But, there is no agency to implement them. Every time when ministers change, those policies also change. Appointing a commission to find solutions for this will not lead to a sustainable solution.

When Presidents, governments, and ministers change, the Commissions too change. If we go this way, long and medium-term policies will never be implemented.
