Passenger nabbed with Rs. 150 Mn worth gold by airport security

A group of officers of the Police Anti-Narcotics Division arrested a passenger who was trying to smuggle 7 kilogrammes of gold worth over Rs.150 million   in to the country on Sunday (07). The suspect is a 43-year-old businessman who often travels overseas. He is a resident of Maradana, Colombo.

He had arrived at the Katunayake International Airport on a flight from Dubai on Sunday (07) morning.

The passenger was coming out of the airport, when he was searched by the Police on suspicion. Police said the stock of gold was concealed in eight small parcels in his waist and consisted of 42 gold biscuits and a stock of jewellery weighing 2kg and 600 grams.

The stock of gold and suspect has been handed over to the airport security for further investigations.
