COPA informs Dept to report progress before May 15
No action taken on airport E-gate equipment purchases
Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) Chairman Lasantha Alagiyawanna informed the Immigration and Emigration Department to take necessary steps to install the CCTV camera equipment purchased for the installation of the internal premises of the Immigration Department’s head office as they have been lying idle for six years.
It was revealed that these cameras, which were purchased at a cost of Rs.2.1 million in 2017, did not have all the necessary accessories.
The COPA Chairman pointed out that some people in such institutions do not like to have CCTV surveillance and informed them to appoint a committee under the chairmanship of an Additional Secretary of the Public Security Ministry to take steps to install the CCTV camera system and to inform about its progress before May 15. The COPA expressed its dissatisfaction for the delay in implementing E-gate system.
