Patients will be provided with quality medicines under NPP government – Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa
Kalutara District Team Leader of the Nation Peoples’ Power (NPP) for the forthcoming general election Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that patients will be provided with quality medicines under a NPP government.
He emphasized that since the confidence in the medicines given to the patients by the government health system has been seriously undermined, steps will be taken to continue providing quality medicines to the patients under a future NPP government.
Dr. Jayatissa said that under the government going to be formed the hospital system will provide quality medicines to the patients and create an environment where people can get quality medicines at reasonable prices through pharmacies countrywide.
He further said that the construction of a fully equipped laboratory to check the quality of medicines is the priority and that the quality of medicines will be continuously monitored.
“We don’t have formal laboratories of international level to check the quality of medicines. Therefore, problems arise regarding the quality of medicines. Therefore, a formal medicine testing institute is being established,” he added.
He added that after removing the shortcomings, technical weaknesses, fraud, corruption, political interference etc., in government institutions related to the health sector including the Medical Supply Unit of the Ministry of Health, the Drug Regulatory Authority, and the quality of medicines could be protected and ensured as well as the quality of the health system.
Dr. Jayatissa noted that ‘Primary Health Centres’ (PHC) would be set up to reduce overcrowding in government hospitals. Around 4,000 people are served through this one PHC. Also, data about the health of the local people is entered into a database and this health data system will be connected with the upcoming ‘Sri Lanka Digitization Programme’. Then patients can get treatment and health facilities from any government hospital by providing their personal identification number.
