PC interdicted after dancing on stage

The Kelaniya Assistant Superintendent of Police interdicted a police constable who climbed up on to the stage in uniform, at the end of a musical show held during a New Year festival function,    at the Kelani Nadee Stadium in Peliyagoda and engaged in dancing. The constable who was interdicted was attached to the Peliyagoda police station and had been deployed on security duty at the musical show venue.

A sergeant and four constables had been deployed on security duties at the venue of the musical show.

The show had commenced at night on April 30.He also mentioned that the organizers had agreed with the police to end the musical show by midnight.

The sergeant and a constable who had been in charge of the group of police officers deployed on security duty had informed the organizers at midnight that it was time for the show to end.Then the organizers had requested the police officers to grant them another half hour to wrap things up.

The police had granted their request and at about 12.30 am, one of the police constables on security duty had climbed up on to the stage and engaged in a conversation with the band. The other police officers had thought that he was warning them to halt the show since the extra half an hour granted was up.

However, police information said that this was not what had happened and actually the police constable had told the band to play his favourite song and requested a apprentice singer to sing it. This officer had remained on the stage without allowing the band to stop playing and attempted to keep on dancing and according to the police, he had finally been removed from the stage by the organizers.

Police information further revealed that the sergeant in charge of security had taken steps to inform the Officer-In-Charge of this incident. Accordingly, an investigation had been held and the Assistant Superintendent of Police had interdicted the police constable involved.
