National People’s Power (NPP) National Executive Member and Kurunegala District Group Leader, Namal Karunaratna, emphasised that people are no longer deceived by the deceptive tactics of those who have governed the country for 76 years.                                                           He made these remarks while addressing a public rally on Friday (8), at the Sathyawadi Grounds in Kurunegala, in support of NPP Candidates from the Kurunegala District.

Karunaratna remarked, “Despite heavy rainfall and challenging conditions, the people have affirmed their victory for this General Election. While our opponents discuss rising rice prices, our President took action when the government had no rice in storage. Currently, some large-scale mill owners are courting votes from both the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and Samagi Jana Balavegaya, while hoarding rice. We are implementing fair and transparent measures to ensure that farmers and consumers receive equitable prices, preventing exploitation for personal gain. Our plans include reducing rice production costs and setting a controlled price for rice. We will also implement scientific strategies for vegetable, fish, and livestock farmers.”

He continued, “Despite our progress with this plan, enemy forces are spreading propaganda to mislead the public. We are just getting started. Those who have exploited the country for 76 years, now blame us, but the people will not be misled by their fiery rhetoric.”

Karunaratna also mentioned the positive changes made under the NPP leadership, such as appointing a new Chairman to the Milk Production Co., Milco, and ensuring timely payments to dairy farmers. He highlighted how Milco, which was once near bankruptcy, turned a profit under the leadership of Anura Kumara Dissanayake, when he served as Minister of Agriculture in 2004. Currently, Milco is being saved from the plans to sell it to Amul, an Indian company.                      “We have achieved significant progress in Agriculture and Livestock. Plans to sell State assets to foreign companies have been halted, and we are reallocating those resources for the people’s benefit.                                                                                                                                            We are fielding a dedicated group of Candidates from the Kurunegala District for the upcoming General Election under the NPP leadership. Regardless of who represents Kurunegala, they will serve the people wholeheartedly. We urge all citizens to unite and elect the maximum number of representatives to Parliament under NPP guidance.”
