Galle Additional Magistrate Lakmini Widanagamage fined Rs.100,000 on an individual who pleaded guilty to having posed as a doctor for over ten years.
The fine was imposed on Abdul Fatha Abdul Cader (74), who had been maintaining a dispensary in Sarenthukade area in Galle.
Investigations had revealed that the suspect had worked as a pharmacist in a pharmacy for sometime and is not qualified to treat patients. Accordingly, the suspect was charged with possession of medications without a licence from the Drug Regulatory Authority and possession of samples given by pharmaceutical companies for sale.
The complaint had been led by Galle District Food and Drug Inspectors S.S.Hapuarachchi and D.S.P.Gunasekara, based on the instructions of Galle District Medical Director Dr.M.K.Somaratne.
