Pilikuththuwa Raja Maha Vihara to be developed as an eco-friendly tourist zone
Plans are afoot to develop Pilikuththuwa Raja Maha Vihara, Yakkala as an eco-friendly tourist zone under the Mahara Development Plan. The programme has been named as ‘Travel to Pilikutthhuwa’.
This Mount Pilikuththuwa is located in an area of 250 acres with a mountain ridge about 400-450 feet high. Around 52 acres of it belongs to the Pilikuththuwa Rajamaha Viharaya. The area with the Pilikuttutu Rajamaha Viharaya is considered to be the temple with the highest number of caves in the country. There are about 99 stone caves in the area.
