Nishanthe Piyasena, the President- Modern Pentathlon Federation of Sri Lanka has been elected as the Deputy Secretary-General – of the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC) for the consecutive second time at the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation Elective Congress 2021 which concluded on last Friday .
Twenty one countries in Asia got the right to vote in this election and three candidates were contested for this position from Sri Lanka, Singapore and Chinese -Taipe.
Out of them, Nishanthe won the majority to be appointed the Deputy Secretary post and this is great honour for Sri Lanka.
Nishanthe Piyasena is the pioneer of establishing Modern Pentathlon sport in Sri Lanka in 2013 and he will be able to create a strong platform for local athletes to bring out their pure talent at the global level. Nishanthe, who has served in many capacities in country’s sport administration in the past.
He was the Assistant Secretary of National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka(2009-2017) and did a superb job as Chef De Mission for several tours. In addition he was the Treasurer of Sri Lanka Triathlon(2015-2017) and Secretary General (2007-2010) / Vice President (current) of Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. He is a keen cyclist.
Nishanthe Indunuil Piyasena the former Mahinda College cricketer offered numerous services to the country holding many volunteer positions. As the first Secretary-General and a founder member of the Modern Pentathlon Federation of Sri Lanka, Nishantha, has been a genuine sports administrator. He was instrumental in opening avenues for athletes to reach the Olympic level as well as the young community to enter to the sports administration with their creative mindsets.
