The Police Department has taken action to accelerate the investigations related to seven high-profile cases which have not been completed or solved so far.
According to Police media spokesperson DIG Nihal Thalduwa the cases are the bond scam, the Easter Sunday terror attack, the death of Dinesh Schaffter, the disappearance of Prof.Ravindranath Subramaniam, who was the chancellor of Kelaniya University in 2007 in the East, shooting at a hotel on December 31, 2023 in Weligama,abducting and killing journalist Taraki Shivaram alias Dharmaratne Shivaram near Bambalapitiya Police Station and kidnapping and disappearance of Lalith Kumar and Kugan Muruganandan on December 9, 2011 in Jaffna.
Thalduwa also said that the Acting Inspector General acting on the instructions given by the Public Security Ministry has commenced investigations with special attention to these seven criminal investigations.
It is also stated that the Inspector General has given instructions to the relevant departments to deploy more officers and pay more attention to the investigations related to the bond fraud and the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday.
