Investigations have revealed that a tourist resort in Huggala said to belong to Gampala Vidanage Saman Kumar alias ‘Wele Suda’, who was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to death, has been in the name of his wife since 2004.

The resort was raided by the Keppetipola Police officers.

The resort has been operating since 2010, offering accommodation to tourists. Some police officers and their families and prison officers and their families have spent holidays there, intelligence sources have revealed. After Wele Suda was brought to Sri Lanka from Pakistan in 2015, an investigation was started regarding his properties.

The Criminal Investigation Department managed to find properties worth Rs. 180 million, but this resort was not found then.

Proceedings are currently being held in the Colombo High Court regarding the Rs. 180 million properties and only Wele Suda’s wife and his sister are accused of money laundering.
