Police have issued a public advisory urging homeowners to take precautionary measures when employing domestic workers following several complaints of theft reported across the country.
According to the Police Media Division, recent complaints involve domestic workers allegedly stealing valuables such as gold jewellery, cash, foreign currency and other property from households where they were employed.
Investigations have revealed that some individuals obtain employment through agencies, intermediaries or direct hiring and later remove valuables from the residences where they work.
Police advised homeowners to carefully verify the background of individuals before employing them, including checking National Identity Cards (NIC), obtaining police clearance reports and recording contact details of family members.
Authorities also recommended storing jewellery, cash and important documents securely, avoiding leaving domestic workers alone in homes whenever possible and informing the local police station about the employment. (NewsWire)
