Policeman injured during raid, 10 remanded

A Police Constable was admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital after he sustained injuries to his head when stones were pelted at him during a raid conducted against a heroin smuggling gang at Wijepura Farm in Anuradhapura. 

Police has conducted the raid on a tip off. Ten persons including six women who attacked the Police were arrested with heroin valued at Rs 500,000 on Wednesday.

Police said that when four males were taken into custody with heroin, a group of women who had arrived at the scene had started pelting stones at the Police.

The situation was brought under control after another Police team was summoned to the area. The suspects were remanded till November 20 after being produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate yesterday evening.
