A Police Constable attached to the Keselwatta Police, who tried to go to Italy via Qatar with the aid of forged documents was arrested in Qatar and deported to Sri Lanka recently.
Police said he had taken three-days leave from Police duties prior to leaving the country.
The officer who was deported from Qatar was arrested by the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department when he arrived in Sri Lanka at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake on Sunday.
The Policeman who is a resident of Yakdessa in Dankotuwa had gone on leave on November 15. The Criminal Investigation Department stated that Seven persons including the Policeman who were arrested with forged documents were deported from Qatar.
It is reported that the Police officer and the group had prepared to enter Italy with fraudulent Italian residence cards and visas, which were detected by the immigration officials at the Qatar airport.
The seven suspects who were deported were arrested by the CID and produced in Court.
They were released on bail by the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
