Post-Mortem into NPP candidate’s death to be held today

National People’s Power (NPP) Nivithigala Pradeshiya Sabha Candidate Nimal Amarasiri who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital with serious injuries during the protest in Colombo   on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries yesterday, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said.

The cause for the death is yet to be identified and the Post-Mortem into the death is to be carried out today, a senior Police officer said.

Silva said that another individual who attended the protest is also receiving treatment at the hospital in a critical condition.

“Our protest was peaceful. We had no intention of clashing with the Police.

However, the Police had obtained restraining orders from three courts before the protest started, and that showed how scared they were. We were attacked and 28 persons were hospitalized with injuries,” he said.

The deceased is a 61-year-old retired Administrative Officer of the Sri Lanka State Plantations Corporation, who is a resident of Dodagammana Dehela, Ratnapura. He has been identified as a heart patient.
